MishMash

Bored of the same names and faces cropping up at gigs, the Institute and Stiff Promotions teamed up to create a new night that highlights all that is quirky and different in today’s music scene – MishMash!

Institute students and alumni performed alongside the cream of musical output from the south coast. With some of the hottest touring bands emerging onto todays’ music scene, MishMash did not fail to be a great night.

MishMash

MishMash @ The Luminaire - Thursday 19th June

The RGB’s – www.myspace.com/thergbs
Headlining the inaugural night, prior to sweeping through some of the UK’s best summer festivals (Glastonbury, Hyde Park Calling, Wireless, Bestival), The RGB’s (fronted by Institute tutor Becky Jones) bring their overlapping synths, shared vocals and pounding beats to the Luminaire. These three ladies and their French male drummer bring a heady mix of 80s synth pop and punk attitude as well as a live performance that never fails to amaze.

The New Devices – www.myspace.com/thenewdevices
Signed to RCA Records, The New Devices (featuring Institute students Arni Arnason & Fredrik Lundagards), with songs of debauched nights on the town and the regrets of the morning after, fuse dance music and energetic beats for an age when the iPod is your DJ and it’s rare to find an act that takes you to unknown places.

The Rebs – www.myspace.com/therebsmusic
Southampton’s The Rebs have built up a reputation supporting acts like The Enemy, Tiny Dancers and former La’s/Cast man John Power. Already booked to play Guilfest this year and having reached the finals of the 'Road to V Festival' competition, The Rebs may be Hampshire’s best kept secret, but soon the secret will be out.

Dan Smith – www.myspace.com/danielsmithsmusic
Hunched behind his keyboard, 21 year old Dan Smith is something of a revelation. An everyday young man devoid of arrogance and pretension, yet with a passionately-honed raw talent that would have the purveyors of today’s ‘mockney’ singer-songwriting acknowledging that their time in the spotlight may well be up, his folky pop never fails to warm the heart and leave the audience smiling.

Tickets £5 concessions / £6 on the door, available from:

The Institute, 1a Dyne Road, Kilburn, London (students only).
