Wes Borland chose The Institute to present his first ever clinic! Not that you’d know in any way as he spoke eloquently about the huge range of topics that the enthusiastic audience raised.

Wes is a unique musician who has constantly striven to break the boundaries of what the guitar can do. He spoke openly about his approach to playing the guitar, both in terms of techniques such as his whammy bar use and how he uses his visual art background to inform his playing. All this was peppered with loads of playing examples and a few ‘can you play…’ requests from the students!

He also shared his views on song writing, the role of vocals, building crazy guitar-like instruments and his new Yamaha signature guitar (which has a great locking system fitted).

Wes is a hugely popular player, evident from the huge student interest and the number of photo’s and signing-of-guitars that went on at the end. We can’t wait to have him back!
