Gary Powell recently visited the Institute to show off his amazing drum skills to our students.
Gary is the powerhouse behind Dirty Pretty Things. He was formerly the drummer for The Libertines and Eddy Grant and has also played with the New York Dolls for their 2004 reunion shows.
Gary joined The Libertines in 2001 after being introduced to the frontmen Carl Barât and Pete Doherty by their then manager Banny Poostchi. He has drummed on some huge Libertines hits such as 'Don't Look Back Into The Sun', 'Can't Stand Me Now' and 'Up The Bracket'.
Gary is currently the drummer in Dirty Pretty Things which is the band fronted by former member of The Libertines, Carl Barât. The band formed in September 2005, after The Libertines split. They have toured the UK extensively playing at numerous festivals including T in the Park, the Isle of Wight Festival and Oxegen. They have also played at the Texas SXSW festival and have supported the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
