BFD - John Emrich
BFD AT THE INSTITUTE - THE FUTURE OF DRUMS AND TECHNOLOGY!

BFD have become the market leader in drum programming software and John Emrich was at the Institute on Thursday 3rd April to host a special performance event demonstrating how to work with this groundbreaking technology. BFD is a software acoustic drum module which integrates directly into your sequencer environment; its flexible and intuitive interface allows the freedom to build varied and realistic drum tracks.
John is a professional drummer/percussionist, producer and sound designer. He is a driving force in the electronic drumming field on the use of VST instruments. A key product specialist for software developer FXpansion, John has recorded studio drums for FXpansion's acclaimed BFD drum software series. He is internationally known for his work with the Zendrum as well as articles featured in Modern Drummer magazine.
This unique masterclass covered the use of the BFD2 as a live and studio tool for drummers and producers alike. Covering key features, John showed students how to set up ‘e-drumming live’ and for ‘e-drumming in the studio’, using BFD2 as a plug-in. Also featured, alongside John on drums, was the Institute’s Dave Marks on bass and Johan Englund, our own technology and studio guru, on the recording process. It was a great opportunity for anyone interested in the percussive arts to see how drummers work with technology to expand their creative horizons. It was an eye opening master class – thanks John!
