ALBERT LEE RETURNS TO THE INSTITUTE FOR ANOTHER MASTERCLASS

Albert Lee, a Londoner by birth, helped redefine country guitar playing with his pyrotechnical skills and lightening fast hybrid picking. It was an honour to have him come back to The Institute and dazzle another group of students!

He began by blistering through one of his own compositions before he gave the crowd a short history of his playing and development. This included the slow realisation that country music in the states was where his heart really lay!

However, through his clinic we found out that Albert is way more than a country virtuoso; this is a guitar player who has toured and recorded with Eric Clapton, jazz giant Tal Farlow, acoustic maestro Tommy Emmanuel and the legendary Every Brothers. And that’s a short list that could include another twenty stellar artists!

Albert is quite obviously a staggering instrumentalist, but more that just that he bought with him a vast amount of experience and advice that was eagerly received by the enthusiastic audience. He also talked about his Musicman signature guitar; Albert was one of the original endorsees, along with Steve Morse, and they both had significant input into the redevelopment of these great guitars.

“I have been coming to The Institute for many years, and this was definitely the best!” was his verdict, and something we agree with him wholeheartedly on!
