The ICMP will welcome fingerstyle master Tom Doughty for an exclusive masterclass.  Specialising in slide guitar, Tom is a master of his craft and will share tips and tricks, as well as his experience in the industry from recording to technique.  Part of Rhythm of London.

Jon Gomm 

A graduate of the Guitar Institute, songwriter and performer Jon Gomm returns to the ICMP to give an exclusive masterclass.  With experience performing and touring with some of the most respected names on the acoustic circuit such as Tommy Emmanuel and Nick Harper, this is not an event to miss!

Martin Ranscombe

Known as the 'Drum Guru', Mapex-endorsed Martin came to the ICMP to give an incredible drum clinic.  He specialises in drum tuning.

Steven Machat, author of 'Gods, Gangsters & Honour', came to the ICMP to deliver a masterclass on his incredible experience in the music industry.  Son of a legendary showbiz lawyer, Steven has worked with some of the industry's biggest names including Frank Sinatra, James Brown, Suge Knight and Michael Jackson.

Doug Wimbish & Will Calhoun

The ICMP were proud to welcome Living Colour's bassist Doug Wimbish and drummer Will Calhoun for an exclusive educational clinic.  With some of the most incredible experience in the industry, it was a fantastic chance to meet and learn from two of rocks most respected musicians.

The ICMP welcomed Hugh Burns for an exclusive guitar masterclass focusing on fingerstyle latin and spanish guitar styles.  With credits that include performing and recording with Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson, as well as work with leading producers like George Martin, Hugh has firmly established his reputation as a world class guitarist.

Songwriter, musician and producer specialising in contemporary R&B and pop, Paul Simm has written hits for acts including the Sugababes and Eagle Eye Cherry and produced albums for the likes of Groove Armada.  Hosting a songwriting workshop for ICMP students, Paul spoke about his experiences and gave advice to students on their pieces.

Currently writing for Kylie Minogue, up-and-coming star Amy Studt hosted an exclusive songwriting masterclass for ICMP students before her headline gig at The Half Moon, Putney.  Supporting Amy at the gig were two ICMP students, Caitlin Kelly and winner of the 2009 Shure Creative Award, Zemmy.

Musical genius Richard Smith came to the ICMP for an exclusive masterclass. Practicing the jazz guitar intently since the age of 14, Smith has recorded albums which became some of the top discs in the early contemporary jazz genre. Students witnessed a live performance of he and his band, and got the chance to ask questions about recording, performing, and what it takes to be a professional player here and abroad.

If "world music" is music that pays tribute to the spirit of a collection of human beings through distinct rhythms, traditional instruments and harmonic colors, Pierre Bensusan can be recognized as one of the most eloquent and diverse world musicians of our time.

Lang earned his stripes by working with some of Europe's most demanding recording and touring outfits including Falco, John Wetton, Bonnie Tyler, and many others.  In addition to his work with other artists, Lang's 1995 solo release, "Mediator" topped the charts in Europe and garnered rave reviews for its innovative Jazz/Dance/ProgRock sound.

The ICMP were delighted to present a unique and exclusive masterclass with legendary lyricist and multi-Grammy and Oscar-winner Sir Tim Rice. It was a rare opportunity to hear Sir Tim talk about his life and work and his writing partnerships with composers such as Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and Sir Elton John.  ICMP students and staff performed selected songs from his repertoire with commentary onstage from Sir Tim himself.

The ICMP welcomed up and coming star Polly Scattergood for a masterclass before her headline performance at MishMash at the Luminaire.  Polly spoke about her experiences in the industry and her music, while her manager, Neil Ferris, former MD of EMI, was on hand to answer any music business questions. 

The ICMP was very excited to welcome The Bedford's Tony Moore into the school to host a songwriting masterclass. With an eclectic career of music-making which includes being a founding member of Iron Maiden, keyboard player for Cutting Crew, creator of London's famous venue Kashmir Klub and host of a BBC Radio show, Tony has a wealth of experience to draw on.

Renowned drummer Carlos Hercules came to the ICMP to perform and speak about his experiences playing for the likes of the Eurythmics and George Michael, as well as taking part in the recent Take That tour and being the first drummer to play the new Wembley!

Janek, a member of the ICMP's visiting faculty and a rapidly rising star in the world of bass guitar, has brought together a trio of some of the most cutting edge musicians in New York City - Jojo Mayer (drums), Oli Rockberger (keys and vocals), and long-time collaborator Audun Waage of Norway on trumpet.  He left the audience at the Luminaire masterclass speechless after an amazing session.

Pat began playing professionally in 1961. He has performed with a wide variety of artists including Sonny Stitt, Gene Ammons, Richard Groove Holmes, John Handy, Bobby Hutcherson, Chick Corea, Jack McDuff, Don Patterson, Stanley Clark, Eric Kloss, Trudy Pitts, Willis Jackson,  Lloyd Price, Woody Herman, Chuck Israels, Charles Earland, Barry Miles and Joe Pesci. Since 1967, Pat has been touring as a leader. 

Double Ivor Novello Award winning singer-songwriter, Chris Difford came to the ICMP to host a unique masterclass where he performed some rare Squeeze classics as well as his own solo material, talked about his long & successful career and answered any questions students had! 

Scott Henderson's impressive work over the years as co-leader of the group Tribal Tech, and as sideman for Chick Corea, Jean Luc Ponty and Joe Zawinul has elevated him to the front ranks of both jazz and blues.  Scott's trademark today, apart from being a world class player and premier composer, is his unique sound and striking ability to change from soulful blues to technical jazz.

Students go the chance to join The Coronas, platinum-selling Meteor Award nominees with their debut album 'Heroes or Ghosts', for a performance and Q&A session before their headlining gig at the Luminaire. 

Julian Velard

A native New Yorker brought over to the UK by Virgin Records, Julian is a brilliant songwriter and storyteller.  He hosted a masterclass at the ICMP on his talent and experiences in the music industry. 

Signed to Columbia (Sony Records) Julian is a singer-songwriter who is managed by Hilary Shaw (Girls Aloud). He visited the ICMP along with Columbia Records' Marketing guru Claire Horseman, to answer questions on how to make it in the music industry. Read more...

Incredible Kasabian Drummer Ian Matthews signed out from completing his latest album to deliver a gripping masterclass of his pure raw talent and passion for music!

Terry Ellis has enjoyed both outstanding solo and group success with En Vogue in her longstanding career as performer and singer. The singing sensation graced us with her presence, alongside renowned vocal coach David Stroud.

Spectacular drummer and percussionist Fausto Cuevas took a break from his current European tour with Stevie Wonder to step into the Institute for an exclusive masterclass.

Voted as one of the best albums of the year by Radio One, 'Ruin' proved to be Architects breakthrough effort, securing the band a position at the top of the UK metal and hardcore community. Having performed at Download Festival, clocked up a rare second live session on Radio One and hit the road once alongside the likes of Bring Me The Horizon, The Red Chord, Gallows & Enter Shikari, big things lie ahead!

Having played guitar in metal bands, Nevermore, Testament, Dragonlord and Vicious Rumours, Steve will be dropping in to the Institute as part of the Metal Hammer Weekend to show off the skills which have made him so in demand.

Albert is way more than a country virtuoso; this is a guitar player who has toured and recorded with Eric Clapton, jazz giant Tal Farlow, acoustic maestro Tommy Emmanuel and the legendary Every Brothers.

Steve Proud, EMI's A&R guru, headed to the Institute to give a talk about A&R, his background and the importance of image. He also spoke about what he looked for in a band and listened to a few demo's.

Ian Thomas is renowned for having a versatile drumming style and performs for a wide range of musical genres that has established himself as one of the most in demand session drummers in the UK.

There are stars and then there are legends… Marco Mendoza and Tommy Aldrige are the latter. These guys really wowed the Institute audience and left everyone with their jaw well and truely on the floor!

In March 2007 Kiko Loureiro was voted "Best Guitarist" by respected Japanese music publication BURRN. Kiko visited the Institute and wowed the whole audience with his incredible skills and laid back personality.

Mark has drummed alongside such huge stars as Pink, Velvet Revolver, Destiny's Child, Simple Minds, Cher, Sheryl Crow and many, many more. There are no coincidences when it comes to success and Mark shared his success secrets, tips and techniques openly and honestly with all of our students.
