Vocal Degree
This dynamic, relevant and challenging Vocal Degree (in Popular Music Performance) combines the development of professional musicianship skills with the provision of the tools and knowledge required for graduates to develop and sustain a career in the modern music industry. The course offers a ‘conservatoire style’ approach for the contemporary singer/vocalist, delivering more contact hours and higher instrumental standards than similar courses on offer.
Being located in London enables students to both learn from, and interact with, a staff of leading educators and top professional musicians who have developed a performance-led curriculum in line with the demands of today’s ever changing music industry. There are a wide variety of musical activities in which to engage, and opportunities to work in professional settings.
| The programme is mainly delivered through practice- and performance-based modules (approximately 75% of the activities) which provide a unique practice/theory divide. This enables students to develop high levels of skill in music practice, performance and production. This is accomplished by all students following a core programme in the first two years. These modules focus on building the essential set of musical skills for the contemporary musician in performance, practice, theory, technology, stylistic awareness, collaboration, popular music history and songwriting. This skills development continues in the second year, with the addition of the study of arranging, composition and the business and economic aspects of the music industry. |
