Blues and Soul Workshop
BLUES AND SOUL WORKSHOP COURSE SUMMARY
While it's great to study in a classroom there is no substitute for the sheer exhilaration that comes from playing in a band on stage!

Each week you will perform a different tune within a real band, putting all of that hard work into practice! In addition to the two hour workshop, each week a one hour 'prep class' will prepare you to perform the following weeks tune, giving you plenty of time to work on it.
The tunes you will perform are all from the Blues and Soul genres, of intermediate standard and by classic and contemporary artists alike. The thing they all have in common is that they are great fun to play and sing, in addition to being great vehicles for learning!

The objective of these workshops is to help the student develop the skills required for live performance and to encourage communication and understanding between band members. This will include appropriate use of dynamics, articulation and timbre, as well as correct pitch, rhythm, timing and groove. The tutors provide verbal feedback during the class to enable students to continuously develop and improve their performance skills.
Songs are chosen with each instrument in mind and reflect the key artists, grooves and tempos that typically define Blues and Soul. Whether you are a guitarist, bassist, drummer or vocalist, each song to be performed will contain both a musical challenge as well as becoming a valuable addition to your repertoire.
The actual songs covered may vary from time to time but they will typically include both contemporary and vintage examples. In addition, an hour-long prep class will instruct you how to perform the following week's song, giving you plenty of time to practice it before you have to get on stage with the band.
