The one year Diploma in Contemporary Music is our funded course for younger students wishing to develop and practice their live band performance skills, improve their general musicianship and musical knowledge, and explore their creative potential. For students of guitar, bass, drums and vocals aged between 16 and 18 years the programme is funded*

Here are 6 great reasons to choose this exciting and rewarding pathway:

  • The first funded specialist Diploma course of its kind
  • Play and perform every week in live bands
  • Discover your creative potential
  • Experience some of the best teaching in the business
  • Learn and play in great facilities with the latest equipment
  • Gain a nationally recognised qualification

The focus of these funded courses is very much on playing in a band, with lots of performance opportunities each week and throughout the course. You will form bands, together with other musicians, choose and rehearse repertoire and deliver the results where it matters, on stage! In addition to this you will learn about a wide range of contemporary styles, study the techniques and theory of your instrument through a wide range of lessons and classes, enhance your creativity and songwriting whilst also looking at the broader issues involved with contemporary music including music business and the history of music.

If you love music and performing, this course will help you develop the instrumental and musical skills you need to start your career. Unleash you own true creative potential; find out what you are capable of as a musician! And since tuition fees are funded if you are aged between 16 and 18 years, its an unbelievable opportunity to study for free at the Institute!

*Tuition fees fully funded for UK students aged 16-18 years. Students will however be required to pay an additional charge to cover specialist materials and support activities. Levels of funding may vary according to changes in government policy.
